Bill Bailey (Hot Fuzz and Black Books) wasn't always the magnificent beast standing in-front of you now. He was once a struggling actor, and here he talks about certain things he tried to include on his acting resume, which would of course backfire on him.

  • I've watched this several times, but for some reason I only just realised the reason he's holding a chicken, on a stepladder, and playing the tuba dressed as a beefeater, is because those are the things he said he could do on his resume. I am not smart.

  • I love how theres multiple comments from morons trying to debunk the whole sun and moon joke set up, when: A. If you watched previous clips youd understand B. They would think a comedic and musical genius like Bill wouldn't understand that they were both visible at the same time C. That commenting on it will somehow get the attention of Bill when this is a show that happened ages ago and theres very little chance of him seeing the comments Like, really, c'mon, stop, you're not impressing anyone with how faux smart you're being and you're making yourselves look like twats. Enjoy the comedy in it you bell ends.

    • @Wendy Woo TLDR. Just kidding. I'm 'only' 47, but I agree with you in part. But it's not the 'soundbiteness' of younger people I object to so much. Not even their fixation on technology. I'm sure our parents were uneasy about us watching telly, or reading comics or even spending so much time out riding our bikes. ("We didn't have no bikes when I werra lad!") No, the three things I'm most uncomfortable about are; The 'memememe culture'; the world all revolves around me! Everyone needs to see what I'M doing because I'M so important. The 'I should be spoon-fed everything mentality.' I've always had everything I needed (even knowledge) handed to me on a plate; so it follows that this should continue to happen. And last, and most important; the idea that it's fine to be incredibly rude/offensive (even dangerously so), because I can hide behind a wire or fibre connection and never have to personally interact with those people. Just joining in with the 'slightly grumpy old people rant.' 👨 Happy New Year to you.

    • Please watch the whole show instead of thinking this one clip tells you everything you need to know in 6 minutes. Bill's comedy requires effort on the part of the viewer. Watching just this one clip of the end is like reading the end of a book before reading the book in its entirety. Of course it won't make sense when taken out of context (especially if it's any Robert Rankin book! 🤣 ) I'm sure you're now fed up with responses here to the same effect. But I felt compelled to add my thoughts as Bill is 🇬🇧 national treasure and his work should be treated with the respect it deserves. Or maybe, at 52yo, I'm now officially old and giving a lecture to the 'soundbite generation' and I lost you before the first sentence ended. 🤔 I actually find it sad that it seems the attention span of people in the upcoming generations is so short. No wonder humanity is f××ked 🤣

    • I had to search after 'Chantelle paradox' in google thinking it was something incredible, it is in a certain way, it's in fact about a "star" (??) named Chantelle (forgot the name) who said that she thought that the sun and the moon were in fact the same thing (sigh).....of course you can see the moon and the sun in the same time but in this case Bill is just mocking this ignorant woman....sorry for the bad english.....

  • At 4:25 he declares that you cannot have the moon and the Sun in the sky at the same time and he gets a big applause for it. But it's not true. The moon in Turner's Fighting Temeraire is a thin crescent moon and you can certainly have that in the sky with the Sun. What you can't have is a full moon in the sky with the Sun because they would be on the opposite sides of the Earth.

    pnartgpnartg6 maanden geleden
    • @Vark Ster Not the vastness of it, no, but perhaps the correct use of it as a tool for research, except then of course, how are the ignorant to even attempt using the Internet to better themselves and become wise by dint of that? I say they cannot.

And I don't get the point, it is normal that the Sun and Moon can be visible at the same time (usually in the morning or at sundown, and it seems to be the case on the painting). So I believe it is supposed to be a metaphor or a reference to something I am not familiar with. ?? edit: and I don't get the owl bit either. was this just cut and the whole setup is missing?
