  • If you think Country and Western is dark, you should listen to the old bluesmen like Robert Johnson. Now that really is dark, the majority of his songs are about drinking, killing, pacts with the devil and adultery.

    AuriflammeAuriflamme2 maanden geleden
    • @CSharp lol country hasn't really ever done that... just a subset of artists and fans. Lots of country deals with dark themes, and unashamedly so.. just with perky major chord progressions.

Not My NameNot My Name18 dagen geleden
    • @CSharp I don't know, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Jimmy Buffet and so on not to mention the essentially folk singers/musicians from which the genre emerged were talking about the concerns of ordinary people. Christian music as a theme can cover pretty much any genre. But I'm not that well up on Country or its history so I will take it on faith (pun unintended) that people tout it as the music of Christian values, but just because some Country acts have a Christian theme it doesn't mean that defines the genre. In any case I was more commenting on the relative 'seediness/melancholia/darkness' of the two genres, rather than any theme. Cheers!

      AuriflammeAuriflamme2 maanden geleden
    • But the blues has never pretended to be the music of "Christian family values" the way country music has.

    • I know it's a common saying and all, but have you ever thought about the fact that it's more than likely ALWAYS factually incorrect whenever (EDIT: forgot the "someone") someone says "[insert name of person/title] is the most underrated [insert profession/genre] of all time" ? Simply because if someone acknowledges the person or title's worth, there is bound to be an other person/title that simply has gone largely unnoticed in spite of being almost (if not just as) good as the person/title you are referring to now :P All that being said, I certainly like Bill Bailey a lot as well. There's no questioning his absolute brilliance and level of entertainment ^^

  • He's got a point. Ever actually listen to the lyrics of "You Are My Sunshine"? "I'll always love you and make you happy If you will only say the same But if you leave me and love another You'll regret it all some day" If that's not a not-so-subtly veiled threat, I don't know what is.

But what I wouldn’t give to spend an afternoon on a sunny day by a fire 🔥 pit drinking a few beers 🍻/ wine 🍷 sitting in bean-bags and putting the world 🌍 to rights with you, ( or just live in your head for a while 🤪), Alan Davies, Jo Brand, Stephen Fry, Aisling Bea, Sandi Toksvig and Susan Calman and one more male comedian? I’m struggling between Adam Hills and Gregg Davis?🤔. But what a joy to see a stoned Sandi and Susan trying to get up out of bean bag chairs! 🤣😂🤣!!!!

    • @Auriflamme I don't know, Trump is on 'their side', so all his unethical acts, adultery etc. is ignored.

      Phonebox ChickenPhonebox Chicken2 maanden geleden
    • I disagree, I don't see this as disrespecting the Bible. On top of that, there was no outcry when Trump used the Bible as a prop to pretend to care about the religious right despite him having zero interest in religion. So I do not see the religious right having an issue unless he actually insulted Christianity or the Bible explicitly. Furthermore I imagine a lot of Christian musicians would love the Bible-guitar.

      AuriflammeAuriflamme2 maanden geleden
    • the people in America that would go to see Bill, would appreciate the joke. No Burn the Witch for Bill, he has kindred spirits in the States.

      RIXRADvidzRIXRADvidz2 maanden geleden
    • @seraphale : The Bible bashers think 'religious freedom' means they have the right to impose their beliefs on all aspects of everyone's lives, as they've always done, and they see any attempt to get Christians to stay in their lane as 'religious oppression'.
